What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

A backup preserves a recoverable copy of information. Disaster recovery covers the people, systems and steps needed to resume service after disruption. A usable backup is one dependency within that broader process.

Should our servers be on-site or in the cloud?

The decision depends on application support, connectivity, performance, access needs and operating costs. A hybrid approach may suit some workloads. We assess the actual dependencies before recommending a location.

How often should backups run?

Backup frequency follows how much recent information the business could accept losing, together with workload behavior and recovery requirements. Retention and independent copies require separate decisions.

How do we know a backup is usable?

Successful job notifications are useful but insufficient. Restore representative information to a suitable test environment, check application access and data consistency, and document the result without disrupting the live system.
